Cloudbusting.

Do I even get to be cynical? I was talking to a friend the other day who said “You know, I could easily be cynical, but I choose not to”. Not a bad course of action, but the “realist alert” in me moved into the red as I immediately made some comment about how glazing over situations while trying to put a positive spin on everything is about as helpful as being pessimistic because both extremes are still blind to realities. But does someone who believes in the absolute transcendent goodness of God (me, allegedly) get to be cynical about anything without betraying those beliefs? The bottom line is that both the pessimist and the optimist ultimately cater to their level of fear and comfort while sorely missing one crucial ingredient, and that’s….truth. But the truth of God infused with faith produces hope and then love, not cynicism, and that sounds wonderfully optimistic to me.

If God helps me, I will choose hope.
